When Brent Hanson found out one of his neighbours had been shot, he was shocked to hear that it was Bob.
According to Hanson, 76-year-old Robert or Bob Crowle was a friendly, likeable and earnest man. Crowle, who was born Sept. 14, 1940 was remembered in an obituary published by the Calgary Herald as a "kind man, loving husband, father, grandfather and friend with a quick wit and always willing to help others."
But on Oct. 11, 2016, the southeast Sundance community was filled with police cars and news cameras after Crowle was shot and killed by police in his own garage.
Calgary CTV News reported someone was screaming in a 911 call made at about 11 a.m. that morning. When police got to the scene, they were met by a 21-year-old man covered in blood, holding a knife.
The man dropped the knife when asked by police and told them he had been attacked by a family member.

The officers found Crowle in the detached garage
where a vehicle was idling with a hose running
from the exhaust to a back window. CTV reported
that Crowle was covered in blood and had a large
butcher knife in his hand when he confronted
the officers.
One officer fired his weapon and Crowle collapsed,
dying at the scene.
ASIRT is investigating the incident.
